About RG Madanagopal

இரா.கோ.மதன்கோபால்

RG Madanagopal (இரா.கோ.மதன்கோபால்) is a Tamil devotional songwriter whose original compositions range across the great Tamil devotional traditions — Shaiva songs to Thiru Neelakandar and Nataraja of Thillai, Murugan songs tracing the six Arupadai Veedu abodes, Amman songs rooted in local temples of Uthirapatti, Thevadanapatti, and Poigai Malai, and folk-traditional kiramiya Amman songs. His songs combine classical Tamil vocabulary, the rhythmic pulse of traditional bhajans, and a deeply personal bhakti voice.

The Collection So Far

This site currently hosts 19 original compositions by RG Madanagopal across the three great Tamil devotional streams:

  • 5 Shaiva songs — on Thiru Neelakandar, Nataraja of Thillai (Chidambaram), and the Panchakshara mantra
  • 6 Murugan songs — tracing the six Arupadai Veedu abodes, Kavadi traditions, and the path laid by Arunagirinathar in Kandhar Anubhuti
  • 8 Amman songs — to Ananda Valli, Kamatchi of Thevadanapatti, the Aadi Sakti of Uthirapatti near Poigai Malai, and the fierce Udukkai-bearing Mother of folk tradition

Temples & Places in the Songs

The compositions carry the names of specific sacred places that are alive in the songwriter's devotion:

  • Uthirapatti — Aadi Sakti near Poigai Malai (songs: Iththalame Nindra, Poigai Malai Aruge)
  • Thevadanapatti — Kamatchi Amman by the Manjal Aaru (turmeric river)
  • Thillai / Chidambaram — Nataraja, the Lord of the hall-that-is-not-a-hall
  • The six Arupadai Veedu — Palani, Thiruthanikai, Solaimalai, Swamimalai, Parankundram, Tiruchendur
  • Mylapore — the mother's abode of Lord Murugan

About This Site

Tamil Bhajan (tamilbhajan.com) is a tribute project preserving and sharing the original Tamil devotional songs of RG Madanagopal. Every song page presents:

  • The full Tamil lyrics
  • A line-by-line English transliteration
  • A meaning / translation in English
  • The story and context behind the song
  • A YouTube embed where a recording is available

Alongside the original compositions, we also preserve and share a small number of traditional Tamil devotional bhajans — with clear attribution as Traditional — for the broader community of devotees.

A Note on Translations

The English meanings and transliterations currently published on this site are an initial draft. Devotional Tamil carries nuance, saiva siddhanta theology, and tradition-specific references that resist any single translation. These pages will continue to be refined under the author's own guidance.
